Building rapport and relationships with your study group.

Daniel Wong, a current EMBA-Global student, expresses his personal tips on building rapport and relationships with your study group on the EMBA-Global programme. Daniel shares his insights below.

How did you manage to build rapport and relationships with your study group?

A huge part of our team building is our dinner during every residence week. One of the first commitments as a group was that we will have and show up to the dinners, and always be honest and direct with each other.  With the team dinner, we always choose somewhere interesting and in a different part of the city. This gives us a chance to be together without distractions to catch up and for our conversations to go deeper. Our dinner often lasted hours because so many great topics came up and we learnt so many fascinating things about each other. These experiences help set the foundation of our friendships, but also help us understand how we can help each other succeed.

Daniel shares his views on the three most important factors when choosing the EMBA-Global programme.

For me, the three most important factors in choosing the EMBA-Global programme was the international perspectives and experiences, the diverse cohorts, and the rigorous curriculum. Prior to joining the EMBA-Global programme, I worked in data science in the ad tech industry in the US and UK and I wanted to continue my international experiences as well as my exposure to other industries. I found this in the EMBA-Global programme.

Within our cohorts, we have students from South Africa, to Azerbaijan and even Indonesia all traveling in for the residency week, which I think is quite unique to this programme. This helps foster that sense of being a part of the international community.  In the classroom discussions, I have heard and learned from managers to CFOs, with experiences in construction to healthcare, all contributing their diverse views which for me was a key experience I wanted from an EMBA programme. Combined with the rigorous coursework, I not only learnt the concepts taught but was challenged to expand and think how differently they can be applied in different markets and industries.
