Masters in Analytics and Management: Who are we looking for?

by Tiago Martinho, Admissions Director, Early Careers

Hi everyone,

My name is Tiago Martinho. I recently joined London Business School (LBS) as Admissions Director for the very successful Early Careers portfolio, a role that gives me the opportunity to work at a world-class business school with talented candidates and students. I’m particularly excited to be on board in time for the launch of a brand new programme – the Masters in Analytics and Management (MAM).

Our goal at LBS is to have a profound impact on the way the world does business, and the way business impact the world. We’re in constant discussion with employers, always working to ensure our portfolio is up-to-date with the latest knowledge and skills graduates need. Now, the growing influence of data, machine learning and AI sees recruiters looking for candidates who combine analytical skills with strong business acumen, and who can translate their insights to management and deliver genuine business impact. The MAM is an innovative degree designed to meet those needs.

So who are we looking for? Well, a strong interest in the business analytics space is a given. Other than that, it’s not a ‘one size fits all’ scenario – we accept new graduates and professionals with up to two years’ experience from any sector. The broader the profile of our class, the more learning you take away from your peer group. But what you do need is high levels of numeracy, so graduates with an undergraduate degree that includes a strong quantitative component – courses like business, science, finance, accounting, economics, computing, engineering or similar – are likely to do well on this programme. We welcome applicants from other backgrounds, but outside of these areas you’ll need to demonstrate your quantitative ability through a high GMAT score or relevant work experience.

As for personal attributes, we’re looking for people with drive and ambition who want to hit the ground running when they leave us. You’ll want to be more than just a technical expert (although we’ll make sure those skills are strong too) and ideally looking to progress your career towards management roles. Most of all, you need to be hungry for success and willing to work hard, challenge yourself and try new things in order to achieve your career goals.

Today’s business environment is dynamic, global and fast-paced. Global is undeniably in the LBS DNA – within our Early Career portfolio we currently have over 360 students representing 55 different countries and a broad range of undergraduate backgrounds and work experience. Wherever in the world you want to take your career, the MAM will engage your innate curiosity, expose you to a broad multicultural dynamic, and enable you to thrive and adapt in times of uncertainty and change.

The MAM is a programme for people who want to use business analytics to make a difference within their organisation, successfully translating and communicating data to make an impact. We anticipate a broad range of career paths for our graduates, including retail, finance, healthcare and media, with particularly strong demand from consulting and tech-related sectors. If this all sounds like you, please get in touch with our Admissions team. We operate a staged admissions process with 4 key application deadlines – in October, January, March and April – although we do recommend you apply as early as possible. You can find full details here.

With best wishes,

Tiago

Hi, I am very much interested in the area of data analytics. I have done M.Engg. and MBA in Finance and have worked for 2 yrs in IT Industry and around 9 yrs in Financial Sector. I see a culmination of my educational and practical experience in the MAM program. I intend to project myself at the senior level positions in the FinTech / Financial Industry / Consulting space. Considering that you are calling it an early career program, would I be a good fit for this program, in terms of the career goals?

    Hi,
Thank you for this post, it was helpful to get a good start on getting a picture of what this course would be like.
I would like to know how does the MAM program compare with the MiM program in terms of the skillsets gained, future scope post completion of the program and the admission committee’s expectations on a candidate with engineering background.
