I can’t wait to see what comes next: My First Month at LBS

By Eva Simeon, MAM2027

It is hard to believe that it has already been over a month since I started the Masters in Analytics and Management at London Business School! So much has happened in such a short time, from meeting people from all over the world to discovering new interests and making friendships that already feel like they have been around for much longer.

I remember arriving at LBS feeling incredibly excited. Before the course started, I attended two welcome events where I met students from the MAM and other programmes. What immediately stood out to me was how friendly and open everyone was. People were genuinely excited to meet each other and start this new chapter together. By the time orientation started, I already felt part of the community and couldn’t wait for everything that was ahead.

Finding My Study Group

A big highlight of my first month has been getting to know my study group. We all come from different countries and have quite different personalities, which makes working together really interesting. Everyone brings their own strengths and perspectives, and I love seeing how these differences complement each other during assignments.

Another highlight was our Away Day, where we went climbing and participated in different team challenges. It was such a fun opportunity to get to know each other outside the classroom and helped us become much closer as a group. What I appreciate most, though, is how much we get along and can laugh together. Even during stressful moments, like when a Python assignment is due and we are all trying to get our code to work, we somehow manage to have a good time.

Getting Involved in the LBS Community

Another part of LBS I was really looking forward to was joining clubs and getting involved in student life. I recently joined the Women in Business Club as part of the Professional Development team, and I am so excited to get started! Everyone I have met so far has been incredibly welcoming and supportive, and I am looking forward to working together and getting to know even more people across LBS.

Something that has genuinely surprised me is how supportive everyone is of each other’s ambitions. The people I have met have such impressive and varied backgrounds, yet the atmosphere feels incredibly collaborative. People share advice, encourage each other and genuinely want their classmates to succeed. I also love how international the community is. Every day, I find myself learning something new about another culture or discovering a different way of seeing the world.

From Sundowners to Picnics on Primrose Hill

Of course, some of my favourite LBS memories have happened outside the classroom! I have absolutely loved the social side of the experience. Sundowners have been especially fun because they bring together students from different programmes, and I have met so many interesting people through them.

Another great moment was a picnic on Primrose Hill with some of my new friends. It was such a simple afternoon, yet laughing together and enjoying the view of London made me realise how happy I was to have the chance to be part of LBS.

Another fun memory was after a consulting company visited campus for an event. Afterwards, we all ended up going to the pub together, and what started as a professional event turned into a really enjoyable evening. I really love how naturally the professional and social sides of LBS come together. And speaking of pubs, I am definitely becoming a big fan of British pub culture! Our current favourite is the Allsop Arms, which has already become a regular spot after class. Between that, walks through Regent’s Park and slowly learning to appreciate British humour has also been such a fun part of the experience.

Finding the Right Balance

Although my first month was more than amazing and full of surprises, I would be lying if I said it had been completely stress-free. One of the biggest challenges has been balancing academic deadlines, job applications and all the events happening at LBS. There are so many things I want to do, people I want to meet and opportunities I want to explore, and unfortunately, there are only so many hours in a day.

But that is also what makes the experience so exciting. In just a few weeks, I have discovered new career opportunities while also meeting people with amazing experiences. I am gradually getting better at learning how to prioritise while still making the most of everything LBS has to offer.

Looking Forward to What Comes Next

If my first month has taught me anything, it is that LBS is about so much more than academics and professional development. Some of my happiest memories so far have been the little moments, and I cannot wait for what is ahead.

I came to LBS excited to learn and challenge myself by discovering new opportunities. Just one month in, I already feel that the community I have found is even more valuable.

And if the rest of the year is anything like this first month, I really cannot wait to see what comes next!
