Today’s Financial Times Masters in Finance ranking has again named London Business School’s full-time MiF the world’s number one post-experience programme. This is the seventh year in the past eight that LBS has topped the table.
Rankings are often the first piece of research those looking at applying for a Masters in Finance, or any masters degree programme, will look at. What many do not know is the methodology the Financial Times use to determine this ranking and what it reflects about the programme.
To be eligible to participate, a school should be accredited by AACSB or Equis, the programme must have been running for at least four years and it must have graduated its first class at least three years before the ranking publication date. Programmes must meet strict criteria to be eligible; they must be full time, cohort-based and have a minimum of 30 graduates per year. The rankings have 17 different criteria, distributed across alumni responses to a FT survey and school data.
The current average salary of alumni has the largest weighting. London Business School’s MiF recorded the highest post-graduation salary in this year’s ranking (US$160,593) and the programme’s highest ever salary percentage increase reported by alumni.
The other key criteria include career progression, diversity in both the classroom and faculty, career service offering (effectiveness of school careers service in terms of coaching, personal development, networking events, internship search and recruitment), the percentage of graduates employed within 3 months’ post-graduation and the value for money (calculated according to alumni salaries today, course length, fees and other costs).
We liaise with organisations worldwide to encourage the sponsorship of their staff to attend LBS. Usually each firm will have a list of approved schools that fulfil their requirements for sponsorship and recruitment and that list is based on rankings.
Here at LBS, we’re dedicated to our students, being consistently ranked as one of the best business school’s in the world: delivering a world class education, we continue to aim to have a profound impact on the way the world does business, and the way business impacts the world.
