Embarking on the EMBA-Global programme is a unique opportunity, offering the prestige of two MBA degrees from London Business School (LBS) and Columbia Business School (CBS). Over the course of 20 months, you will balance coursework, assignments, and exams across both institutions. This blog dives into how assessments are structured, grading methods, and the time commitment to ensure you are geared for success!
Time Commitment:
The programme is designed with busy professionals in mind, utilising a block week format.
Core courses:
For the first three terms, you will undertake core courses, which will be structured as eight block weeks, each lasting five to seven days, with a total of 51 days spent across LBS and CBS campuses (39 weekdays, excluding travel).
Electives:
In the last two terms, you undertake electives, and your schedule will vary depending upon which courses you choose, and in which format these courses are offered. Electives are offered in New York, London and Dubai!
Below you can find an example of how your core block weeks are structured:

Assessment Methods:
Each course is assessed using some or all following assessment tools:
- Individual Work: Projects, essays, or reports tailored to your learning objectives.
- Group Assignments: Collaborative projects that you will complete within your study group
- Class Presentations: Opportunities to develop and showcase your communication skills.
- Exams: Written or practical evaluations to test your understanding of key concepts.
- Class Participation: Some classes will also grade you on class participation, so it is important to attend all lectures.
To successfully complete the degree, you must complete 11 core courses, one Global Business Assignment or International Seminar, and 10 electives from our extensive portfolio. More information on electives can be found on our website: https://www.emba-global.com/programme-details/elective-portfolio
Grading:
Grading varies between institutions and course types.
For core courses at LBS it is as the following:

And at CBS they use the following grade system and curve to determine the following grades for core courses:

Electives at both schools are graded differently, but you will have plenty of information on this once you embark on the programme.
Graduation and Degree Award
Upon successfully completing all requirements (including fee payments), you will be presented to the MBA Board of Examiners for degree approval in the month of March. The board comprises:
- A Chief Examiner appointed by the School
- internal examiners nominated by the Subject Areas
- external examiners nominated by the Subject Area Chair and approved by the Chief Examiner.
You will celebrate your achievements at two graduation ceremonies – one at CBS in February and one at LBS in July.
As you can see, the EMBA-Global programme is a demanding but rewarding journey, which will give you access to world leading faculty, global business insights and a diverse network. For more information on the academic quality manual, visit our official website.
